Every house with trim molding and a bookshelf butted against the wall will know this inconvenient phenomenon (and if you live in an older house with trim that extended over an hour from the wall, then you’ll really know what I’m talking about). The gap in the side (or rear) is usually too large that books or other items eventually fall through the crack. Sure, one can say “ Why not put the books on their side?” to which I respond with “ I don’t like how that works.” So I wanted to develop a solution to be able to stack all my books vertically on the top shelf.
Let’s call this creation, a “bracket”, for all intents and purposes.
My daily creation is a specifically designed part for my bookshelf and gap size. I just wanted it done for the sake of completing my bookshelf. The design incorporates a flat section where books sitting on the shelf itself can hold the bracket horizontally. The two perpendicular features that look like a bridge, keep the overhanging part from sagging under the weight of the book(s). The bracket also has a hole for locking its position using a screw.
Overall, the final product looks great and is a great conversation piece. My reading taste is quite unique 🙂
